The core belief of the City of Venice is that we, the Mayor, City Council, Managers, Supervisors and Employees serve with P.R.I.D.E. We are: Productive, Responsible, Innovative, Dedicated and Ethical.
Plan: The City of Venice Strategic Plan, wherein our core belief is further articulated, forms the backbone of the city's performance measurement program. The annual review and adoption of the plan by City Council ensures a continuing focus on the organization's priority for accountability and quality service provision to the community. The identification of beliefs, establishment and prioritization of objectives, quantification of the value of each to citizens, followed by the definition of related principles and means for achievement provides the overall policy agenda direction.
This policy direction is further defined through city manager team meetings in which each objective and principle is translated into measurable target goals and projects, and then assigned to functional operations for implementation and coordination. To ensure success, continuing education plans and necessary training for each department and action team are also identified.
Departmental biweekly staff meetings provide an overview of major goals and objectives with elaboration on each operational unit's priority activities. Achievement goals and a step plan are developed by the action team designated responsibility for accomplishment. The frequency of these meetings provides ample opportunity for early identification of any developing challenges and ongoing monitoring of achievement status.
Monthly followup meetings of management staff reveals opportunities for cooperative effort and eliminates duplication of tasks and activities in those areas where more than one operational unit has interest or functional responsibility.
The following table provides a summary of the overall performance measurement plan:
