Orlando – Profile
In 1856, the village of Orlando became the county seat of Orange County, Florida. The “Town of Orlando” was incorporated on July 31, 1875 with an area of 4 square miles. Orlando incorporated as a city, in 1885. At the end of Fiscal Year 2004, the City of Orlando, as a result of numerous annexations, has an area of 109.7 square miles and a resident population of 208,900 – but is still located entirely within Orange County. Because Orlando is a major international tourist destination, the Fiscal Year 2004 estimated daytime (or service) population is 337,048.
The City of Orlando’s Fiscal Year 2004 total general fund operating expenditures was $251,645,923 with another $17,455,674 spent on capital projects. During the same period, Orlando had 2,896 full-time, 33 part-time and 771 seasonal employees.
